I don't claim at all to be an expert at phone game in fact i believe its an area i need some work. But there are a few things i have noticed that typically keep you in control of the conversation.
The biggest one is avoiding the obvious questions like whats up and what are you doing. Asking one of these at the start of a text is sometimes okay depending on the situation but dont ask it again if the conversation is dying. Simply state something interesting that will make them ask questions
Speaking in statements over texts makes the girls feel as though they have to work to make you seem interested in them. I find if they are answering really quickly to sometimes intentionally wait a minute or two to answer so that they think you are busy with something and are not waiting on them.
yeah haha.. some ****y funny stuff you can do that avoids the whole, AFC hey what's up **** can be things like saying:
Me: Can you please stop? Girl: Stop what!? ha ha Me: Stop thinking about me, your making me feel uncomfortable. (Add in I need a connection first or something like that after if you wish.)
Doing this routine usually opens up possibilities for role playing and/or good call back/ in this case text back humor.
Conecs right. Avoid all that whats up stuff. Its Needy. Make her say it, you can call her up and say something totally rediculous like:
"Hey its me. I just got back from my neighbor's house...he has a ****ing pet chicken! Can you believe it? Its name is snowy lol. Anyway i was looking at the chicken at it made me think of you."

They always respond well to that, and then THEY can ask ME whats up.
Play around and make up your own that work... Mine is really fun because its true lol, its not like i live in the sticks, i live in the city. So i dont see many chickens unless im at KFC. So i can actually take her to my neighbor's place and show her the chicken. Have Fun

Well like, there are a couple girls that like me and i talk to them but not alot, and anyway they send me texts alot like the one you said about being reminded by something stupid like a pet chicken.. but i don't know.. girls might react differently than i do.
just off the top of my head, try applying a wingman type method to a situation where your gaming a girl via text. have your wing text the girl saying something like " yeah man, (the girls name) is definietly that kind of girl. (then you want to bring up a questions, which will confirm that the message is infact meant for you) but man, you should quit your job at (location of employment) and come to ( random location of employment). this will let her know that your talking about her, but will also drive her crazy because she wont know what you were talking about, this will get her attention.
